With the 84th Annual Academy Awards just days away — the ceremony is set for broadcast Sunday night at 8:30 p.m. on CTV — the Oscar buzz is reaching a fever pitch.

Also, with such works as the ode to classic cinema The Artist, Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, the Aaron Sorkin and Steven Zaillian-penned Moneyball, and (what some refer to as the new 2001: A Space Odyssey) Terrence Malick-helmed The Tree of Life in the running, it’s anyone’s guess which film will be named Best Picture of the Year.

Visit the Oscars’ official site for a nominees’ list — and while scanning/mentally critiquing it, you might notice Canada’s own Monsieur Lazhar, which gets a nod from the Academy for Best Foreign Language Film.

A school drama set in the wake of a heartbreaking tragedy, director Philippe Falardeau’s film — adapted from a one-character play by Evelyne de la Cheneliere — explores how a shaken class and out-of-his-element substitute teacher attempt to come to terms and move forward after their former teacher — and his predecessor — commits suicide in the classroom.
